Ruger 10/22 Magnum
My need for a custom 22 mag walking varmint rifle started after mt disappointment ina 17hmr. though still need for some type of nice shooting walking varmint rifle I just didn't know which one to choose
My criteria for a walking varmint rifle were , easy to carry, accurate. easy to load, able to carry lots of ammo and comfortable. I really wanted a rimfire because my time with my subcontracting business was booming and time was short. I was thinking of a 22 magnum since I really have had a lot of experience with it in the past. I don't even know why I sold my others. So I spied this ruger 10/22 mag in a pawn shop for 280 bucks. My brain started clicking with what I could do with it. I bought it then sold the barrel and stock back to the pawn shop owner for 50 bucks so I got a great deal on this action.
The first thing I Bought was a Adams&Bennett heavy match barrel that was finished of with a nice blueing. Then I called Midway and ordered a Boyds Thumbhole Silhouette in Nutmeg Laminate . Though absolutly gerorous this configuration was not as I anticipated. I toped it off with a Tasco World Class 3-9x40 mil-dot. This rifle was a little on the heavy side so after having it for a year I opted to install a Hogue overmolded stock with a heavy barrell chanell. This was it, just perfect. Nice feel nice weight. Just what I was looking for.
The preformance of this Ruger 10/22 magnum was awsome. It cycled perfect. I love the feeding set up that Ruger has with their rotary magazine. Another feature about this rifle I like is the nine round capacity of its magazine which is the most of it kind. The bolt slams pretty hard and you can hear it but it seems to feed just fine. The trigger is managable and sits at crisp 5-6 lbs. I personally love this gun and will have it for a long time. If you have the chance to Buy or build a set up like this or better I would do it.
accuracy was great at 75 yds it posted 9 shots in 1/2 "and that MOP " minute of Prairie dog" all day.
This group was shot using CCI Maxi Mag + V 30gr JHP 9 Shots
